ON MONDAY

U.S. Federal Reserve policymakers are due to speak at different events. Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis President Alberto Musalem is scheduled to speak on the U.S. economy and monetary policy and participate in a moderated conversation before the Money Marketeers of New York University Inc. (1830/2230) Meanwhile, Minneapolis Fed President Neel Kashkari is set to participate in a moderated question-and-answer session before the Bank Holding Company Association Fall Seminar in Edina, Minnesota. (1350/1750) Separately, Atlanta Fed President Raphael Bostic is due to moderate the "Dynamic Business of Professional Sports" conversation before the Atlanta Fed's Leading Voice Series in Atlanta. Amazon is expected to attempt to convince a Texas jury that its Eero mesh wi-fi systems do not infringe patents owned by holding company TrackThings LLC.


On the Latin American front, Brazil's inflation data, as measured by the IGP-DI price index, for September is due. Additionally, Chile's trade balance data for September is also set to be released.


REST OF THE WEEK

A raft of U.S. economic data is expected in the week ahead. On Thursday, the Labor Department is scheduled to show consumer price index (CPI) in September likely rose 0.1% after rising 0.2% in August. Annually, the CPI is projected to show a 2.3% increase in September, compared to a 2.5% gain in the previous period. Core CPI is expected to reflect a 0.2% increase in September after recording a 0.3% rise in August. On an annual basis, the core CPI likely rose 3.1% in September. Meanwhile, the initial jobless claims likely rose to 230,000 for the week ended October 5, after a reading of 225,000 the previous week. On Friday, the same department is due to report that the producer price index (PPI) for final demand likely inched up 0.1% in September after rising 0.2% in August. In the 12 months through September, the PPI is forecast to have increased 1.6%. On Tuesday. the Commerce Department is expected to report that the country's international trade deficit likely reduced to $70.4 billion in August, narrowing from $78.8 billion in July. Additionally, wholesale inventories data for August is due on Wednesday. Separately, on Friday, the University of Michigan's preliminary reading on the overall index of consumer sentiment is expected to come in at 71 for the month of October.


The earnings season kicks off with the major banks reporting their quarterly earnings. JPMorgan Chase is scheduled to report its third-quarter results on Friday. Analysts are expecting a drop in profit as trading falters and deposit costs weigh. The bank's projections on net interest income will also be under scrutiny, especially after a top executive warned last month that expectations were too optimistic. Separately, Wells Fargo is expected to report a fall in third-quarter profit on Friday, hurt by lower interest income at the fourth-largest U.S. lender. Analyst and investor focus is expected on the executive outlook for net interest margin expansion, the U.S. Federal Reserve's policy path and a timeline for the revival of loan growth. Meanwhile, BNY is expected to report a higher quarterly profit on Friday, helped by a rise in fees earned from managing client assets. Analysts see the custodian bank benefiting from a rally in the equity markets as well as improved investor sentiment from the Federal Reserve's bigger-than-expected September rate-cut.


Asset management giant BlackRock is set to report its third-quarter results on Friday. Analysts expect lower profit as a surge in expenses offsets higher advisory fees. Markets will also parse through CEO Larry Fink's commentary for cues on the economy and scrutinize the company's expectations for its private markets business.


A host of Federal Reserve policymakers are scheduled to appear at various events through the week. On Thursday, New York Fed President John Williams is slated to give remarks and participate in a moderated discussion on the economic outlook and monetary policy before event organized by Binghamton University in Vestal, New York. Raphael Bostic is due to give remarks and participate, on Tuesday, in a moderated conversation on the economic outlook before the Atlanta consular corps luncheon in Atlanta. He is also scheduled to give welcome remarks before the Greater Atlanta Home Builders Association's monthly meeting in Atlanta on Wednesday. On the same day, Dallas Fed President Lorie Logan is set to speak on the current state of the economy before the Future of Global Energy Conference presented by Shell USA, Inc. and co-hosted by the Greater Houston Partnership in Houston. He is also due to participate on Friday in a panel before the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas Women in Financial Services Conference in Dallas. On Wednesday, Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee is scheduled to give opening remarks before the hybrid Chicago Payments Symposium in Chicago. At the same event, Richmond President Thomas Barkin is also set to speak. Goolsbee is stated to give opening remarks, on Friday, before the 18th Annual Community Bankers Symposium, "Community Banking: Navigating a Change Landscape" hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago. Michelle Bowman is also scheduled to speak at the same event. On Tuesday, Boston Fed President Susan Collins is scheduled to speak before the 23rd annual Regional & Community Bankers Conference hosted by the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston. She is also due to speak on Wednesday before the Worcester Regional Research Bureau 39th Annual Meeting in Worcester, Massachusetts. On the same day, San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly is slated to participate in a moderated conversation on monetary policy and the economic outlook at Boise State University in Boise, Idaho.


Elon Musk is set to unveil Tesla's much-awaited robotaxi product at an event in Los Angeles on Thursday. Analyst and investors expect a prototype for its self-driving cab as well as plans for a ride-hailing app that will allow Tesla owners to list their vehicles to run as robotaxis.


PepsiCo is expected to post a rise in third-quarter revenue on Tuesday helped by stronger demand in its international markets while domestic demand is likely to be muted. Investors will look out for signs of sales recovery in the salty snacks category, comments on volume improvements in North America and the pace of promotions.


Delta is expected to report a lower third-quarter profit on Thursday due to the disruptions caused by a global cyber outage. The focus, however, will be on the strength of travel demand as well as the airline's pricing power.


Domino's Pizza's same-store sales growth is expected to slow sequentially when it reports third-quarter results on Thursday, on choppy consumer spending across the U.S. and in international markets despite higher promotions. Investors will watch out for comments on demand trends in international markets and expectations for the holiday season.


A federal judge is set to hold a hearing on Friday to consider objections from relatives of people killed in two Boeing 737 MAX crashes to the planemaker's agreement to plead guilty to conspiring to defraud regulators.


The U.S. Department of Justice is expected to outline at a high level what should be done to restore competition after a judge's ruling that Google illegally monopolized online search in court papers due Tuesday.


Gary Gensler, chair of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, is scheduled to participate in a fireside chat at New York University with former SEC Commissioner Robert Jackson.


Voting machine maker Election Systems & Software is set to ask the Federal Circuit to revive its patent-infringement lawsuit against rival Smartmatic over technology for improved voter-assistance terminals and ballot-marking devices in voting machines.


Statistics Canada is expected to release unemployment data for September on Friday and August trade balance figures on Tuesday.


For the Latin America region, Brazil's IPCA inflation index and CPI data for September are set to be released on Wednesday. On Thursday, Brazil's IBGE is expected to report the retail sales data for August. Meanwhile, investors will also look forward to Mexico's September inflation and PPI data on Wednesday. Mexico's industrial output data for August is due on Friday. On Thursday, Argentina is due to release September consumer inflation data. Additionally, Argentina's statistics agency will release industrial output figures for September on Tuesday. Chile's statistics agency INE is due to report September inflation data on Tuesday. Peru central bank's interest rate decision is due on Thursday.
